Meteorologist in a weather studio explaining weather forecasts

News Summary

Bayne Froney has officially joined the FOX Weather team as a meteorologist in New York City. Previously at WLEX in Lexington, she built a reputation for engaging weather forecasts. With a passion for meteorology and a commitment to community, Froney looks forward to her new role, especially with hurricane season approaching. Her journey reflects her dedication to delivering essential weather information, marking a significant milestone in her career.

New York City Welcomes Bayne Froney to FOX Weather

New York City has officially welcomed Bayne Froney as the latest meteorologist to join the FOX Weather team. Froney’s appointment comes after her three-year tenure at WLEX, Lexington’s NBC affiliate, where she built a reputation for her engaging weather forecasting and community connections.

Froney’s last day at WLEX was last Friday, and she has already moved into her new apartment in New York City with one of her sisters. She expressed enthusiasm for her new role, particularly as hurricane season approaches. This opportunity marks a significant step in her career, bringing her closer to her aspirations in meteorology.

Originally from Michigan, Froney holds a degree in broadcast journalism from Arizona State University and has a well-rounded background in the field of meteorology. Prior to her position at FOX Weather, she worked for KERO-TV, an ABC affiliate in Bakersfield, California. It was there that she discovered her passion for meteorology while filling in as a weekend weather forecaster. Her path in television weather forecasting began in Waco, Texas, at KXXV, another ABC affiliate where she served as both a reporter and forecaster.

Academic Credentials and Professional Experience

To further her expertise, Froney completed a master’s in geoscience at Mississippi State University. Although she began her career in journalism driven by a love for storytelling, she found a unique way to tell vital narratives through the lens of weather. Her ability to connect with communities—especially during severe weather events—has been a hallmark of her career, including providing updates following tornadoes that impacted Kentucky.

Froney’s sense of community and commitment to providing timely weather information demonstrates her dedication to supporting those in vulnerable situations during severe storms. Reflecting on her decision-making process, she accepted her position in Lexington without visiting Kentucky, a move she now considers one of her best decisions.

A Fond Farewell to Kentucky

While embarking on this new journey, Froney expressed that she would miss her colleagues at WLEX, whom she regarded as family. She noted the kindness of the people in Kentucky, a sentiment that resonates deeply with her memories in the state.

At FOX Weather, her role represents a dream come true, as she looks forward to delving further into her fascination with meteorology. The president of FOX Weather, Sharri Berg, expressed excitement about Froney joining the team and highlighted her commitment to forecasting accuracy—an essential quality in the meteorological field.

What to Expect from FOX Weather

FOX Weather is an innovative platform for weather information, offering a free, ad-supported television service that is accessible online, through the FOX Weather app, and on various internet-connected televisions. Although June 16 is set as her official start date, viewers may need to wait a little longer to see Froney on-air due to preliminary training activities that will occupy her initial weeks.

As Bayne Froney embarks on this new chapter with FOX Weather, her journey from Kentucky to New York City reflects her dedication to the field of meteorology and her commitment to serving communities with essential weather information.
