Pifer is survived by his mother, Laura Minota Bassett Fernandez Harris of Nicholasville, Kentucky, and his son, Stefan Aaron Pifer, who is in a relationship with Kennedy Russell, residing in Georgetown, Kentucky. He also leaves behind a sister, Deanna Maria Pifer, and a nephew, Dylan Thomas Kelly, both of Front Royal, Virginia. Daniel’s extended family includes uncles Mark Rodney Ruebush and Edward Richard “Dickie” Pifer, as well as aunt Leta Pifer Griffith, alongside numerous cousins scattered across Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Luther Pifer, Jr., and other family members.
Daniel graduated from John Handley High School in Winchester in 1997. He continued his education at St. Andrews College in North Carolina and later attended the University of Kentucky in Lexington. Throughout high school and college, he was an active soccer player, serving notably as a goalie.
In 2008, Daniel began his coaching career in Mercer County, Kentucky, where he led a recreational soccer team to its first state championship. He later transitioned to coaching at Commonwealth Soccer Club, where he achieved significant success, winning multiple tournaments across the United States. Additionally, he coached for the Lexington Football Club and held a position as a goalkeeping coach for the Olympic Development Program (ODP). Notably, in 2012, he guided a U8 3v3 team to the ESPN World Championships in Orlando, Florida, securing a 15th place finish nationally.
Daniel was also actively involved in his community, running summer and winter soccer camps and volunteering with local youth soccer leagues. Beyond soccer, he worked at Lexington Auto Spa and was known for his generosity and compassion for others, notably assisting a homeless person the night before he died.
Daniel had a deep appreciation for animals, particularly his dog Bow Wow, and was a longtime fan of the Washington Redskins, sharing this passion with his family. He regularly attended church services, specifically Journey Church in Versailles and previously College Park Church of Christ in Winchester, reflecting his Christian faith.
His burial is scheduled for October 24, 2025, at 10 AM at Shenandoah Memorial Cemetery in the Garden of Gethsemane. Following the burial, a Celebration of Life and lunch will be held at Omps South Chapel at the cemetery at 11 AM.
