News Summary

John ‘Jay’ Bordas, the dean of students at Bryan Station High School, faces a first-degree wanton endangerment charge after allegedly threatening another driver with a gun. Following a traffic incident and previous investigations, he is on administrative leave. The Fayette County Public Schools district addresses the seriousness of these allegations and emphasizes a commitment to safety and professional conduct among staff.

Lexington, Kentucky – John “Jay” Bordas, the dean of students at Bryan Station High School, is facing serious legal troubles following a charge of first-degree wanton endangerment. This charge stems from an incident on February 13, 2025, when Bordas allegedly pointed a gun at another driver after a traffic altercation in Lexington. Bordas has pleaded not guilty to the charge and is scheduled to appear for a pretrial conference on May 22, 2025. As a result of these allegations, Bordas is currently on administrative leave from his roles at the high school, which include head golf coach and assistant boys basketball coach.

The incident that led to the charge occurred after Bordas reportedly pursued another driver to their home, where he brandished a black firearm. This frightening encounter reportedly caused significant danger and distress to the victim involved. Fayette County Public Schools (FCPS) confirmed that Bordas had been placed on leave following these serious allegations and legal troubles.

In addition to the current charge, Bordas has a troubling history of prior investigations related to his conduct in the school environment. In 2019, he was privately reprimanded by the former Superintendent Manny Caulk due to inconsistencies in employee training records that he oversaw. As a result of these discrepancies, he was barred from serving as a trainer for safe crisis management within the school district.

Another significant investigation occurred in 2023, triggered by a student who reported seeing Bordas in what was described as an “intimate situation” with Meredith Ramage, a female staff member and the principal at Bryan Station’s Leadership Academy. The investigation revealed that a student had observed Bordas and Ramage during school hours and reported suspicions of inappropriate behavior. Both Bordas and Ramage denied having any intimate relationship, claiming they were only searching for athletic tape in that instance. However, due to the nature of the complaints, both were required to complete additional online safety training to ensure they adhered to professional conduct standards moving forward.

Despite the ongoing controversies, as of May 16, 2025, Bordas was still officially listed as the dean of students on the Bryan Station High School’s official website. Following the initial gun incident, Bordas also received a citation for speeding, driving 10 mph over the limit, with an arraignment set for June 26, 2025.

School officials have taken a firm stance on the matter, reminding both Bordas and Ramage about the importance of maintaining a professional demeanor and adhering to school policies, particularly concerning staff relationships in supervisory roles. Concerns regarding the alleged relationship between Bordas and Ramage have also been raised by other staff members, with some administrators expressing worries over rumors regarding their conduct.

The Fayette County Public Schools district has assured the community that it takes allegations of misconduct seriously. They emphasize their commitment to uphold policies against retaliation for individuals who report such incidents. The district is currently navigating the implications of Bordas’s legal issues, his past conduct, and the response needed to ensure a safe and professional environment for both students and staff.

As the legal proceedings unfold and further details come to light, the Fayette County Schools community remains focused on maintaining the integrity of its educational environment while addressing these serious concerns regarding Bordas’s behavior and conduct.
