News Summary

John ‘Jay’ Bordas, the Dean of Students at Bryan Station High School, is facing serious legal issues after being charged with first-degree wanton endangerment for allegedly brandishing a firearm during a traffic dispute. The incident was reported to authorities, who identified Bordas as the suspect. He has a history of previous internal investigations related to discrepancies in certification and inappropriate conduct with staff. Despite the legal troubles, he continues to hold multiple positions at the school.

Lexington, KY – John “Jay” Bordas, the Dean of Students at Bryan Station High School, is facing serious legal issues as he has been charged with first-degree wanton endangerment for allegedly brandishing a firearm at another driver during a traffic dispute. The incident occurred on February 13, 2025, prompting an investigation by local authorities.

According to reports, Bordas followed the victim after running a stop sign and ultimately stopped his vehicle in front of the victim’s home. The victim claims he saw Bordas pointing a black firearm at him from inside his car. With the assistance of investigative resources and cooperation from the victim, police identified Bordas as the suspect. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges and was arraigned in Fayette District Court on April 15, 2025. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 22, 2025, where he will participate in a pretrial conference.

This recent charge comes amid a backdrop of previous internal investigations involving Bordas while affiliated with Fayette County Public Schools (FCPS). He has been the subject of at least two significant inquiries. The first occurred in 2019 when he received a private reprimand from the late Superintendent Manny Caulk. This investigation revealed discrepancies in training and certification records associated with Bordas’s role as a safe crisis management trainer.

More recently, in 2023, an internal investigation was prompted by a student’s report regarding inappropriate conduct between Bordas and a female staff member, identified as Meredith Ramage. The situation reportedly took place in a training room during work hours, leading to concerns about staff conduct. Following the investigation, both Bordas and Ramage were admonished and directed to complete additional online training to address their workplace behavior. The inquiry stemmed from an anonymous report submitted by the mother of the involved student, who indicated that other staff members had also raised concerns about Bordas and Ramage’s interactions.

In light of these developments, the Fayette County School Board had previously approved Bordas and nine colleagues, including Ramage, for attendance at a summer conference in Las Vegas at a cost of $2,649 per person. However, the superintendent made it clear that Bordas would not attend if he remained on leave during that time.

As of May 16, 2025, Bordas retains his positions at Bryan Station High School, including Dean of Students, head golf coach, and assistant boys basketball coach. However, he has faced multiple legal troubles outside his role at the school. On May 6, 2025, he was ticketed for driving 10 mph over the speed limit in Franklin County, with another arraignment set for June 26, 2025.

FCPS officials acknowledged their awareness of Bordas’s situation but maintain that it does not pertain to his official duties; thus, they will not provide further comments on the matter. In the meantime, both Bordas and Ramage appear to have developed a personal relationship, as indicated by their social media accounts, which imply they are currently dating.
