News Summary

The Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) has reached a milestone by awarding the highest number of credentials in its history. Preliminary data for the latest academic year indicates that a total of 44,402 credentials were awarded, including degrees and certificates. This achievement not only marks a significant increase in the number of graduates but underscores KCTCS’s commitment to education and workforce development in Kentucky.

Versailles, Kentucky – The Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) has reached a remarkable achievement, awarding the highest number of credentials in its history since the system’s inception in the 1997-98 academic year. Preliminary data for the 2024-25 academic year reveals that KCTCS’s 16 community colleges collectively awarded a total of 44,402 credentials, which encompass degrees, diplomas, and certificates.

This record-breaking figure not only marks the largest number of credentials awarded in a single academic year but also highlights a significant increase in the number of graduates. In total, 24,263 graduates earned at least one credential during the past academic year, making it the highest number of distinct graduates since the system’s establishment. The Spring 2025 semester alone saw new highs, with colleges awarding 23,313 credentials to 13,468 graduates, signifying the most credentials and graduates recorded in a spring semester on record.

KCTCS President Ryan Quarles has indicated that these milestones reflect the collective dedication of students, faculty, and staff. The accomplishments not only demonstrate personal growth for individuals but also play a vital role in strengthening the workforce and bolstering Kentucky’s economy.

Details of the Achievements

The preliminary data indicates a sustained effort from KCTCS to support students in their educational pursuits. Throughout the academic year, community colleges across the state have been instrumental in providing valuable training and educational opportunities, resulting in a surge of credential awards.

The record numbers are a testament to the effectiveness of KCTCS’s programs, with vocational and technical training being key areas of growth. This expansion aligns with the state’s long-term goal of enhancing workforce development, especially in high-demand fields. Each credential awarded is viewed as a crucial step toward improving professional prospects for graduates, ultimately benefiting the community and the state’s economy.

Looking Ahead

The final official counts for graduates and credentials will be submitted to the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education next month. While these preliminary figures are promising, the totals may be subject to slight adjustments as the data is finalized.

KCTCS, which encompasses a network of regional colleges with a centralized office in Versailles, serves communities throughout Kentucky. Annually, the system enrolls over 110,000 students, fostering an environment aimed at accessible higher education for residents and addressing workforce needs in various sectors.

Background on KCTCS

Founded in 1997, the Kentucky Community and Technical College System was established to offer higher education and training opportunities to students in the state. It emphasizes a comprehensive approach to education, providing a pathway for students returning to school, those entering the workforce for the first time, and individuals seeking to enhance their current job skills. As KCTCS continues to adapt and respond to the changing landscape of workforce demands, these recent achievements underscore its commitment to educational excellence and economic development in Kentucky.

As the data processing continues and final reports are compiled, the KCTCS looks forward to building upon this success and continuing to serve as a pillar of education in the community.
