Located at 760 Newtown Springs Drive, the Kroger Marketplace will feature modern conveniences such as an 18-pump fuel center, a drive-thru pharmacy, and a Little Clinic for minor medical needs. Additionally, customers can look forward to a variety of specialty shops including a Wine and Spirits Shop, Murray’s Cheese Shop, and a sushi bar, alongside sections dedicated to home goods and apparel.

This development will mark the third Kroger Marketplace in Lexington, joining existing locations at Beaumont Centre Circle and Richmond Road. With 206 Kroger Marketplace locations across the United States, this new store exemplifies Kroger’s commitment to expanding their presence in the region.

Construction for the Newtown Springs location is already underway, having begun on August 30, 2025. The store will offer 476 parking spaces and designated spots for grocery pick-up, which is becoming increasingly important for modern shoppers. The facility’s design aims to accommodate anticipated customer traffic and various shopping needs.

Although many in the community have expressed enthusiasm regarding the addition of another grocery store, there are also concerns about the potential for increased traffic flow in the area. A zoning change hearing is set for June 26, aimed at evaluating the project’s impact on local infrastructure and community dynamics.

Currently, there are 11 additional Kroger locations operating within Lexington, along with several competitors including Publix, which is constructing three new stores, and other grocery chains such as Meijer, Aldi, Walmart, and Trader Joe’s. The community has voiced mixed opinions about the necessity of another grocery store, reflecting varying perspectives on market saturation and consumer needs.

Furthermore, a proposal has been submitted for a fourth Kroger Marketplace at 1811 Winchester Road, with discussions still ongoing regarding its development. This indicates Kroger’s intention to further solidify its foothold in the Lexington market, responding to increasing demands for diverse grocery options.
