Lexington is facing a challenging time as Lexington Blue, a local construction company, has announced its closure following more than a decade of operation. The decision comes amid a growing investigation by the Kentucky Attorney General’s office which began on March 25, 2025, into complaints regarding unsatisfactory service and business practices.
Customers, both past and present, have taken to social media to express their frustrations. One customer, Kierstin Hartley, cited a personal experience where she received no services despite months of communication with the company. Hartley alleged that after receiving an insurance check, Lexington Blue issued three additional invoices. She expressed concern that the company might reopen under a different name, which she claims is already occurring as Skyline GC LLC.
Lexington Blue has stated it plans to reach out to customers within 30 days to address the closure. However, the Better Business Bureau has indicated that they lack contact information for the newly formed Skyline GC LLC, adding to worries about the continuity of service issues.
In a separate tragedy, 17-year-old Matthew Perrine was killed in a car crash on Bryan Station Road last Saturday. Perrine’s family has received tremendous support from friends and classmates in the wake of this devastating loss. His mother, Tifany Perrine, is actively collecting personal items from her son’s car to memorialize him, and the family has established a memorial spot in their yard to commemorate his life. They invite community members to share memories and stories about Perrine’s kindness.
In the aftermath of the incident, Tifany has been advocating for safer conditions on Bryan Station Road, reflecting a desire to prevent future tragedies. Additionally, a GoFundMe page has been established to support the Perrine family and to create a scholarship fund in Matthew’s name. A celebration of life for Perrine is scheduled to take place on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Frederick Douglass High School.
In another incident, 32-year-old Joshua Hampton from Lily has been identified as the victim of a DUI hit-and-run. He was struck by Jaime Caldwell, who was allegedly driving under the influence on Georgetown Road on April 16. Following the accident, Caldwell fled the scene but was apprehended at Glendover Elementary School later the same day, where she exhibited signs of alcohol consumption. Hampton succumbed to his injuries two days later on April 18. The grand jury is currently reviewing the case, and Caldwell remains under house arrest.
On a different note, Lexington fire crews responded to a structure fire at a downtown apartment complex on E. Sixth Street near William Wells Brown Elementary earlier today. Firefighters were dispatched shortly before 5 a.m. and found significant damage in a vacant apartment. An adjacent apartment, occupied by five residents, suffered minor smoke and water damage, but no flames reached that unit. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and the area remains blocked between Chestnut Street and Shropshire Avenue as crews continue to handle the situation. The full extent of injuries, damage, and displacements has yet to be determined.
