Lexington – A tragic three-vehicle collision on New Circle Road claimed the lives of three individuals on Monday, March 31, 2025, shortly after 12:30 p.m. The crash occurred between Liberty Road and Trade Center Drive, in the vicinity of Family Circle, when a U-Haul truck collided with a construction van, leading to the van catching fire.
Two occupants from the U-Haul truck and one occupant from the construction van were pronounced dead at the scene. The victims in the U-Haul truck have been identified as William Kelly Curtin, 47, and Emma Hayden, 55, both residing in Lexington. The driver of the construction van was identified as Oleksandr Tyshko, 48, of Nicholasville.
In addition to the two vehicles involved, a third vehicle was present at the scene but only sustained minor damage. The cause of the collision is currently under investigation by the city’s Collision Reconstruction Unit, which is working to determine the details surrounding the accident.
This incident marks a significant occurrence in Fayette County, as it is the first crash with three or more fatalities since June 2021. In a prior incident during that month, six individuals lost their lives in a head-on collision on Interstate 75.
Following the accident, New Circle Road was temporarily closed in both directions between Winchester Road and Liberty Road. The road remained shut while authorities processed the scene and conducted their investigation. It was reopened just after 3 p.m.
Interestingly, this incident was not the only major collision reported on New Circle Road that day. Earlier in the morning, another crash occurred, resulting in four people being hospitalized. These incidents have raised concerns about road safety in the area.
As investigations continue, further updates will be provided regarding the incidents and any conclusions drawn from the Collision Reconstruction Unit’s findings.
