LEXINGTON, KY – A tragic fire in Tates Creek Estates has claimed the life of 44-year-old David Morrow, also known as Joey, marking a heartbreaking day for both his family and the surrounding community. The incident occurred in Jessamine County on Tuesday when firefighters responded to a second fire later in the day, leading to Morrow’s hospitalization and subsequent death from injuries sustained during the blaze.

The Fayette County Coroner’s Office confirmed Morrow’s passing, stating that he succumbed to his injuries after being transported to an area hospital. The fire that took his life resulted in a total loss of the home, and a family of four adults and one teenager tragically lost all their possessions, including three pets, only one of which was rescued from the flames.

Initially, the Lexington Fire Department responded early on Tuesday morning at approximately 8 a.m. to a separate structure fire at 3310 Tates Creek Road. Firefighters quickly extinguished a small fire detected in the maintenance room of the building, with no injuries or displacements reported from this earlier incident. However, as the day unfolded, a more severe fire broke out at a residence in Tates Creek Estates.

Neighbors reported that the fire originated while the residents were away at work, leaving them unaware of the danger that awaited their return home. They returned to find their house engulfed in smoke, and the full scale of the devastation became clear upon their arrival.

In response to the community’s loss, local residents have begun rallying support for the affected family. A GoFundMe page has been established to aid with funeral expenses, denoting a communal effort to assist in this difficult time. Donations are being collected for necessities, including food, clothing, and temporary housing for those impacted by the fire.

Visitation services for David Morrow are scheduled to take place at Betts and West Funeral Home in Nicholasville on Saturday, September 28, from 1 to 3 p.m. This gathering will allow family, friends, and community members to pay their respects and come together in support of Morrow’s family during this tragic period.

The cause of the fire leading to Morrow’s death is currently under investigation, with authorities diligently working to ascertain the origin and circumstances surrounding the event. Fire investigators were at the scene following the incident to piece together details and ensure accountability.

As the community of Tates Creek Estates faces this unfortunate incident, residents are demonstrating an admirable spirit of solidarity by providing assistance to those affected. Contributions toward food and shelter items for the family are ongoing, showcasing the strength of community bonds in times of crisis.

This tragic fire serves as a somber reminder of the unforeseen dangers that can strike at any moment. The Lexington area continues to support one another, reminding us all of the importance of community and compassion in the face of adversity.
