News Summary

The 17th annual Lexington Pride Festival will take place outdoors on Oliver Lewis Way, featuring the inaugural Pride Parade, diverse activities, and over 200 vendors. Amidst changing sponsorship dynamics, organizers remain committed to supporting the LGBTQIA+ community and will offer a shuttle service for greater accessibility. Security measures are prioritized to ensure a safe environment during the event, which emphasizes unity and visibility in challenging times.

Lexington is set to host its 17th annual Lexington Pride Festival on Saturday, June 29, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. This year’s festival promises to attract between 15,000 and 20,000 attendees, moving from its previous indoor setting at the Central Bank Center to an outdoor location along Oliver Lewis Way, stretching from South Broadway to High Street. The highlight of the festival will be the inaugural Lexington Pride Parade, scheduled for 11:30 a.m.

The festival will offer a rich array of activities including a pride scavenger hunt, a chalk drawing station, face painting, drag performances, live bands, and numerous DJs. In addition to the entertainment, over 200 vendors will be present, alongside food and beverage stalls featuring local favorites such as West Sixth Brewing. A free water station will be provided to encourage attendees to bring their reusable water bottles as part of an initiative to minimize waste during the event.

Security will be a key focus during the festival, with the Lexington Police Department monitoring activities throughout the day. Any potential protesters or agitators will be removed from the festival grounds to ensure a safe environment. Organizers are also collaborating with emergency management officials to keep a close watch on weather conditions, with contingency plans in place in the event of severe storms.

This year’s festival takes place against a backdrop of shifting sponsorship dynamics, as several organizations previously involved have opted out due to contemporary concerns over anti-diversity, equity, and inclusion legislation. Major sponsors like the University of Kentucky and Lexington Public Library will not be participating with booths this year, citing issues regarding federal definition guidelines related to identity-based events. Despite these setbacks, the festival continues to receive widespread support from the community.

Some notable sponsors from past years, such as Toyota Kentucky and Anthem Medicaid, have also withdrawn participation this year, citing reasons that include funding allocations and strategic refocusing. Other community partners that will not partake include the Greater Kentucky and Southern Indiana chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association and Bluegrass Community and Technical College.

However, festival organizers maintain a strong commitment to supporting and amplifying the visibility of the LGBTQIA+ community, particularly amid a changing political landscape. An exhibit titled “Queer, Here, & Everywhere: The Roots of Kentucky’s LGBTQ History” will be featured at the event, highlighting significant moments and contributions from the local LGBTQ+ community.

In keeping with convenience for attendees, a shuttle service will operate to transport festival-goers from downtown Lexington’s famous rainbow crosswalk to the festival grounds. This added service aims to promote accessibility and encourage participation from a broader audience.

Overall, the Lexington Pride Festival looks to reinforce its role as a platform for solidarity and visibility within the LGBTQIA+ community, emphasizing the importance of unity and presence during challenging times. With a festive atmosphere planned and numerous activities on tap, organizers anticipate an event that is vibrant, inclusive, and unforgettable.
