Jake Mills has been appointed as the new head coach of the Madison Central baseball team, following the departure of Patrick Robey. The announcement was made on July 16, 2025, via a post on the school’s official X account.
Mills takes over from Robey, who led the Jaguars to impressive heights over ten seasons, including three state titles in the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA). Under Robey’s guidance, the team secured the MHSAA 7A title in May 2025 with a victory over Brandon, concluding the season with a record of 27-8.
The new head coach brings with him a solid coaching history, having previously served as the head coach of the Petal baseball team for four seasons. During his tenure at Petal, Mills accumulated a record of 72-50 and took his teams to the third round of the playoffs in MHSAA 6A during his initial two seasons in charge.
Before his time at Petal, Mills spent eight years at South Panola, where he began as an assistant coach before moving into a head coaching position. His experience in developing winning teams and fostering talent at both Petal and South Panola equips him well for the challenges ahead at Madison Central.
In addition to his coaching credentials, Mills has a strong background as a player. He played collegiate baseball at Northwest Mississippi Community College and Millsaps College. Mills’ high school career was also notable, as he was a member of the Lafayette County High team that won the state championship in 2006.
As he steps into his new role, Mills has expressed his deep appreciation for the opportunity to lead the Madison Central baseball program. He has articulated a strong commitment to continuing the legacy of success that has characterized the Jaguars’ baseball team over the years.
To facilitate a smooth transition and introduce Mills to the community, the school is hosting a “Meet and Greet” event on July 17, 2025, at 6 PM in the MCHS Auditorium. This gathering aims to give fans, players, and families a chance to connect with Mills and his family.
The Madison Central baseball program has an impressive history, with a total of five state championships. The further development and success of the team under Mills’ leadership are anticipated, particularly given how former players and coaches have praised his character, strong work ethic, and effective communication with players both on and off the field.
As Madison Central looks to build on its recent achievements, Mills’ leadership will be critical in maintaining the team’s competitive edge and fostering relationships among players that contribute to both athletic and personal growth.
