Lexington, KY – Publix Super Markets is set to open its first store in Lexington on March 5 at 7 a.m. The new location, situated at 1952 Stockton Way, marks the second Publix store to open in Kentucky, following the inaugural store’s launch in Louisville in 2024.

The Lexington store spans 46,791 square feet and includes a dedicated 3,200-square-foot Publix Liquors section. The company is also planning a larger store at the Fountains of Palomar, located at the intersection of Man o’ War and Harrodsburg Road, which is anticipated to open by summer 2025.

With over 255,000 employees nationwide, Publix is recognized as the largest employee-owned company in the United States. The Lexington location is designed to offer a comprehensive shopping experience, featuring a pharmacy with a drive-thru that provides vaccines, prescriptions, and prescription pet medications.

Shoppers can explore a diverse array of products, including a liquor department stocked with various spirits and wines, highlighted by 44 feet of bourbon and unique “barrel picks” from notable distilleries like Woodford Reserve and Maker’s Mark. Publix is also known for its iconic Pub Subs, available for online ordering or in-store purchases, complemented by a small seating area for customers to enjoy their meals.

The fresh bakery section will carry a range of treats, including cakes and pies sold by the slice, with special items like key lime pie and mango key lime pie. Daily offerings include fresh-cut fruit salads and yogurt parfaits, as well as a deli with a hot soup bar featuring a rotating selection of daily specials.

To enhance shoppers’ experience, Publix employs color-coded price tags to indicate healthy choices, organic items, gluten-free options, and locally sourced products. The store also leverages technology to support customer convenience, offering online shopping with in-store pickup or delivery through Instacart. Additionally, Publix runs weekly specials and online coupons, including buy one, get one free deals.

In its commitment to local community involvement, Publix has already donated over 170,000 pounds of produce to local food banks since entering the Kentucky market. The Lexington store will feature products made in Kentucky, such as locally produced salsas and sauces, further emphasizing the company’s pledge to support local economies.

Publix fosters a diverse workforce and employs individuals as young as 14, providing opportunities for senior associates as well. Founded in the 1930s, Publix operates more than 1,300 stores throughout the United States, continuing to expand its reach into new regions.
