The work involves the installation of electrical lines and is affecting both lanes of the highway near the Paris Pike exit at mile marker 113. Officials have warned motorists to anticipate delays as rolling roadblocks will be deployed in both northbound and southbound lanes of I-75, as well as the westbound lanes of I-64. The construction is scheduled to continue until approximately 3:00 p.m.

Drivers are advised to slow down and remain vigilant as they approach the work zone. It is recommended to use alternate routes whenever possible and to exercise complete caution while navigating near construction crews. Updates regarding the progress of the roadwork will be provided throughout the day, ensuring that drivers receive timely information about any changes or impacts on traffic flow.

In addition to the ongoing construction work, Lexington’s roadways have been marred by a tragic accident on New Circle Road, which resulted in three fatalities. The Fayette County Coroner identified the deceased victims as William Kelly Curtin, Emma Hayden, and Oleksandr Tyshko, all of whom succumbed to blunt force trauma. The collision, involving a U-Haul truck and a construction van that subsequently caught fire, drew emergency responders to the scene and caused significant traffic congestion on East New Circle Road. Fortunately, after the cleanup efforts were completed, both the inner and outer loops of New Circle Road have reopened to traffic.

Moreover, in a separate incident occurring within the same timeframe on New Circle Road, two injuries were reported. One victim, Ashley Maria Leath, did not survive her injuries. This chain of events has resulted in heightened safety concerns among local authorities and residents.

Compounding the existing issues on the roads, a major repaving project on I-64 and I-75 is set to commence on Sunday night, continuing through Thursday. Lane closures will occur nightly between mile markers 113 and 115, starting at 7 p.m. each night. This roadwork is part of a larger I-75 widening project, which is projected to significantly reduce traffic congestion and enhance safety on the route by the year 2026.
