News Summary

The Ukrainian Pentecostal Church has purchased the former LexCity Church building in Lexington, transforming it into a new hub for worship and community services. After LexCity’s closure due to serious allegations, this growing congregation aims to expand and provide a more spacious venue for its members. With 93,328 square feet and a capacity of 2,600, the building will house a single unified service rather than splitting into two, enhancing community fellowship. Renovations are set to be completed by mid-April, symbolizing hope and resilience for the local community.

New Life for Former LexCity Building in Lexington

Lexington is buzzing with excitement as the Ukrainian Pentecostal Church sets its sights on a new chapter by purchasing the vacant building that once housed the LexCity Church. Nestled near Fayette Mall, this location is all set to transform into a vibrant space for worship and community.

Turning a New Leaf

The LexCity Church closed its doors in 2023, facing a challenging and heartbreaking end due to serious charges against its Executive Pastor. Following this dark turn of events, when multiple allegations of sex crimes involving a minor came to light, the church faced financial turmoil. By July 2023, it was clear that the church could no longer operate, leading to its permanent closure.

However, where some see only disappointment, the Ukrainian Pentecostal Church views opportunity. This growing congregation has been worshipping in Jessamine County, but with around 1,300 members and attracting a whopping 2,200 attendees on Sundays, their current building is bursting at the seams. To better accommodate their vibrant community, they have decided to make the move to the spacious, newly acquired property.

A Fresh Start in a Vast Space

The new building, boasting a massive 93,328 square feet, will not only feature a significantly larger space but will also offer a seating capacity of 2,600. This impressive size means that instead of having to split Sunday services between two different time slots to fit everyone in, the congregation can now gather in unity for one service. It’s an exciting prospect for everyone involved, as it helps foster a sense of togetherness and community that is so vital in a church setting.

The renovation plans are already underway, with hopes to wrap everything up by mid-April. This waiting period builds anticipation among the members and local residents alike, who are excited to witness the transformation of the old LexCity building into a welcoming hub for spiritual growth and community gatherings.

Room to Grow

The new property not only offers ample seating but also includes 13.8 acres of land along with 600 parking spaces. This is great news for the increasing number of worshippers who call the Ukrainian Pentecostal Church their home. The treasure of the church expressed that the move signifies a step toward developing a unified congregation rather than a divided one.

Since its founding, the church has seen substantial growth, and this new location will provide the needed room to expand further. The aim is not just to accommodate present members but to also welcome newcomers into the fold, allowing the church to continue its mission of community service and worship to the fullest.

Looking Ahead

This transition comes with a backdrop of challenges from the past, but the Ukrainian Pentecostal Church is ready to embrace a hopeful future. By purchasing the building in November 2024 for $9 million after it was foreclosed, they’ve made a commitment not just to their members but to the wider Lexington community.

As they work on renovations and prepare for their grand opening, many are eager to see what this new space will bring. The new building represents not just a physical home but a symbol of resilience, hope, and new beginnings following a turbulent chapter in the neighborhood.

In a world that often feels divided, the Ukrainian Pentecostal Church is setting out to create a space where everyone is welcome, regardless of past events. Lexington residents should keep an eye on this exciting transformation, as it promises to be a powerful addition to the heart of their community.
